History - 1987 was the first year
of the LIONS CLUB BALLOON FESTIVAL AND FAIR, at
Highland Village, Texas, with two balloon flights scheduled during the
one-day event. With the help of the North Texas Ballooning
Association, there were eighteen balloons involved. The festival,
with twenty five craft booths, drew an estimated two thousand people.
As the festival grew larger year after year, constant improvements were
incorporated. Two simultaneous balloon glows, on stage
entertainment, food and drink vending, covered and lighted tents for
arts and crafters, and a carnival were added to the festival. In
2008 the name of the event was changed to Highland Village Balloon and
Music Festival to reflect the growing musical entertainment aspects of
the festival. From a humble beginning over twenty years ago, the
Lions Club Balloon Festival and Fair at Highland Village, Texas, has
grown to be the largest scheduled event in Denton County with upward of
twenty five thousand people attending. The Lions Club Balloon and
Music Festival is truly the premier event of Denton County.
